The book launch yesterday evening was a great success and well attended. Special guests were the historian David Starkey and ex MEP David Campbell Bannerman.
The stock of books was not enough to satisfy demand and many placed online orders at the event.
There was an abundance of food and everyone enjoyed the wine from the Kentish estate of Silverhand.
In introductory remarks, Aselle Djumabaeva-Wood explained the beginning of her husband's relationship with Bruges and the genesis of the book almost three years ago.
In his short speech, Michael Wood outlined his belief in the Anglo-Saxon heritage, and it's emergence at the same time as Judaism. He explained that Equality of the Sexes, a Fair Legal System, Election of Leaders and Democracy by Folk Moot, all existed before Christianity.
He compared the Dark Ages narrative to a mixture of Myth and Propaganda. He explained that the Anglo-Saxon heritage was responsible for, trial by jury, bail, common law, our court system, democracy, and parliament. All before Christianity arrived in England. He said that the new narrative of a Judeo-Christian Heritage was not supported historically and that we needed to honour our true non sectarian roots.
He concluded by saying that in the aftermath of the Brexit Referendum, those who had knowingly voted for a referendum the result of which would be honoured, reneged on their commitment. He said that without Losers consent there could be no democracy and that the opponents of Brexit had set a dangerous precedent. Whether one voted Leave or Remain was irrelevant. It was an attack on democracy that should alarm everyone.
Robert Oulds chaired the meeting.
