An Annual Event

The trouble with most modern radio alarms, which we have beside our beds to wake us in the morning, is the fact they are too quiet for those of us with deafness and tinnitus in one of our ears. The thing can be buzzing away like merry, and we slumber on regardless. They, sadly, do not wake us in the mornings and the reason we do wake up is thanks to a grumpy wife, who can hear a pin drop at 100 yards, shaking you and instructing to turn that bloody alarm off!

However, I have managed to solve this problem with the courtesy and assistance of the BBC Radio 4 'Today' programme. Rather than using the alarm setting, which I never hear, I use, instead, the radio setting and have it tuned into the afore mentioned radio programme. Mornings now I have a gentle awakening, first the wireless springs into life at the pre-set time, in my slumber I drowsily become aware of usually tedious voices droning on, then I begin to hear what is being said and most mornings, as always loved by the BBC, there is some twit either telling us the unbelievable fact that this current Labour Government is wonderful or the world is coming to an end due to man made global warming, two of the Beeb's favourite topics. On a morning in December, just before Christmas, I woke up with a real start when I heard something quite ludicrous but not unexpected on the BBC. With all seriousness, we were told that 2025 had been the hottest summer here in the UK since records began!

Come the end of every year there are two things which happen without fail, as well as having Christmas at this time of year, we also have the Met Office and BBC banging on about climate change and every year they declare has been the hottest ever, even if it might be in some remote part of Outer Mongolia which no-one has ever heard of! The end of 2025 was no exception. For those of us with a few years under our belts and more grey hairs on our bonce than we would care for, we all know without fail the hottest summer in our lifetimes was 1976, we have never sweltered through anything like it since. As I have mentioned many times, not believing these tall tales of global warming and being informed by the BBC and Met Office the year just gone was the hottest year, in October 2023 I began taking three daily temperature readings from a thermometer on the north side of my garden shed and adding them to a spreadsheet, I am now at the end of my second full year of readings which show no real difference in the daily, monthly and annual temperature averages.

2025, unlike the previous so-called hottest years ever, we did have a nice warm summer, nothing like the blistering summer of 1976 but still quite pleasant. I admit it was also a dry summer with not much rain, as my garden could attest, but when I look back at the year I fail to see how it could be the hottest recorded in the UK ever. The average temperatures for December 2023, 2024 and 2025 were: 45f, 44f and 2025 finished with an average temperature of 44f. My two full years of temperature readings show 54f was the average for 2024 and exactly the same, 54f for 2025. So here's the question the BBC and Met Office need to be asked,  if my temperature readings show no change during 2024 and 2025, how could 2025 have been the hottest recorded ever?

I have little understanding why the Met Office would want to mislead the public, but as far as I am concerned, so-called climate change is nothing more than a scare story and the big, bad bogey man to put the willies up the likes of little children such as Greta Thunberg.

I have been trying to encourage others to also take temperature readings around the country so the averages can be collated and the climate change doom mongers can be challenged with some national figures. No doubt the climate fanatics at the BBC will put their fingers in their ears and will not want to listen or report some real facts instead of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale warnings of future high temperature readings they try to con us with.
