The Bruges Group will fight for a no vote
Twenty-five heads of state and government gather in Rome today to sign the “second” Treaty of Rome that will, in their estimation, complete the work of the first one. The “ever closer union of the people” has become a drive towards a single state despite the stated preferences of the people.
The Constitutional Treaty that Tony Blair signed today is not a tidying up exercise – it is the latest and biggest step in the creation of a country called the European Union.
It will complete the process whereby individual states will lose control over their legislation and their government. The Constitution sets itself up as the origin of law and yet provides the Commission with power to over-ride if necessary.
The process of creating a single, centralized, bureaucratized, non-democratic, integrated European Union must be resisted.
Tony Blair has been forced to ask the people whether they want to be part of that entity, whether they want to hand over their constitutionall democracy, their freedoms to an unaccountable, managerial, bureaucratic system. The people must say no. We must begin our fight to reclaim our democracy.
The Bruges Group intends to fight for a no vote on the Constitution.
The Bruges Group will fight for Britain to be freed from the EU. Nothing is to be ruled out. Britain must once again become a sovereign, independent, constitutional democracy.
