A timely warning is made in this much-needed paper published by the Bruges Group. Disregarding the conventional media obsession with Inter-Governmental Conferences and even the newly demonstrated interest in the European Convention, presided over by a long-retired former President of France, Mr Farage analyses the less well-known but more sinister White Paper on Governance.
In Democracy in Crisis the author shows that the European Commission’s clearly thought out White Paper, published last year but unnoticed by most of the media, is a gigantic step forward towards the ultimate aim: an integrated European state.
Democracy in Crisis also looks at other proposals that are equally momentous: The Commission’s insistence that future EU legislation should be done by regulations rather than directives, to completely by-pass national legislatures and, therefore, the last vestiges of democratic scrutiny, is also analysed. As is the proposal to set up yet more unaccountable regulatory agencies that will have powers of enforcement.
- “…the process of integrating member states to create a People’s Republic of Europe is entering a critical phase... integration is becoming much more visible. The masses are beginning to notice what is happening.”
- “…the driving force propelling the Commission [to implement the White Paper] is a fear that these peoples will no longer blindly accept the steady march towards European integration and might rebel against the ‘project’ if not engaged more fully.”
Mr Farage ends his detailed and ground-breaking analysis with words of warning:
- “The Commission is now set on the path of retraining the voters of Europe to accept a sham democracy in which Europe will be loved, in order that what passes for a democratic mandate can be claimed. Undeterred by the experience of the twentieth century, another grand political experiment is being put into place. It, to, is likely to end in a disaster.”
Nigel Farage MEP also states that,
- “Lady Thatcher's statement about the EU being totally unreformable is borne out by my own experiences and the message in this pamphlet.”
