Response to Kenneth Clarke's misleading statements on the euro

Dr Brian Hindley

Kenneth Clarke says in his Times article of May 15 that the electorate respects "politicians who hold their views consistently and with passion".

We hope that's true. Passion, though, is not appropriate to every issue. A sober judgement that we should reject the pound in favour of the euro is one thing. A passion for replacing the pound with the euro would seem to us to be odd, even unbalanced. We don¹t believe, however, that Mr Clarke is in fact passionate about the euro. We think he's passionate about intensifying our bonds with the EU.

We wish he'd set forth his arguments for that policy, rather than making silly and misleading statements about the euro.
