Biographies of the Speakers

Suella Braverman MP was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union. She resigned on 15th November 2018 in protest at Theresa May’s draft ‘Withdrawal’ Agreement on 15th November 2018. Suella is also the Member of Parliament for Fareham. Suella campaigned to leave the European Union in the 2016 EU membership referendum. She was Chair of the European Research Group, a pro-Leave group of Conservative MPs, until her promotion to ministerial office; she was replaced by Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Sir Christopher Chope, OBE, MP is the Member of Parliament for Christchurch. Prior to entering parliament, Chris was a Barrister and Leader of Wandsworth Council where he pioneered local government privatisation and achieved substantial expenditure reductions. In June 2013 Chope was one of four MPs who tried to facilitate a parliamentary debate on what they called an “Alternative Queen’s Speech.” 42 policies were listed including reintroduction of the death penalty and conscription, privatizing the BBC, banning the burka in public places and preparation to leave the European Union.
