MEPs should reject Baroness Cathy Ashton
On Tuesday,
9th February 2010, MEPs vote on whether to accept the proposed new EU
Commissioners. If approved Baroness Cathy Ashton will become the EU’s Foreign
Affairs Supremo, however, new evidence may suggest that her links with CND –
which she has not fully repudiated - means that she is unsuitable to hold that
post.
The Bruges Group calls on Members of the European Parliament to reject the
proposed Commissioners, especially Baroness Ashton.
 Gerard Batten MEP
says;
“Important research by
Pavel Stroilov reveals the extent to which the 'Peace
Movement' and CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) were, as Lenin would have
referred to them, the "useful idiots" in the communist
cause.
“Serious unanswered questions remain about the funding that CND received.
Baroness Ashton who was CND's Treasurer 1980-1982 has failed to clearly
answer questions about the origin of some unidentified funds received during
her tenure of office.
“It is ironic to say the least that Baroness Ashton who worked to
unilaterally remove Britain's nuclear weapons is now the European Union's
High Representative for Foreign Security and Defence Policy and responsible
for the foreign and defence policies of the European nuclear powers: Britain
and France.
“Baroness Ashton is not in my view a fit person to hold this
office.”
